Anxiety

There are several types of anxiety disorders. There is no one treatment appropriate for all anxiety disorders. Learning whether the anxiety is generalized or related to stressful events, panic, phobias, medical or psychological disorders is important in deciding a treatment plan.

THE PRINCIPLE SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY INCLUDE:   

  • Trembling / feeling shaky
  • Restlessness
  • Muscle tension
  • Shortness of breath, smothering sensation
  • Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • Sweating or increased perspiration
  • Cold hand and/or feet
  • Lightheadedness and dizziness
  • Tingling
  • Diarrhea / Constipation
  • Frequent urination
  • Feelings of unreality (derealization)
  • Insomnia
  • Difficulty with attention and concentration
  • Nervousness
  • Irritability

These symptoms are direct features of anxiety, but they are also symptoms of:

  • Adrenal tumor
  • Alcoholism
  • Endocrine imbalance
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Medications / Drugs / Caffeine
  • Mitro valve prolapse
  • Parathyroid disease
  • Premenstrual syndrome

 

PNP ASSESSMENT FOR ANXIETY DISORDERS

Basic Protocol:

  • Brain functioning as analyzed from a Quantitative EEG study.
  • Biofeedback Psychophysiological Profile assessment to measure psychophysiological arousal and one's current ability to relax, self-calm, and manage stressful situations.

PNP BASIC SKILL DEVELOPMENT

While at the Lawlis Peavey PNP Center assessment strategies for managing situations which produce anxiety will be demonstrated and practiced. Self-work or homework assignments will be given to further the development for self-skill management.
