The Lawlis Peavey PNP Center

PNP SPECIAL FEATURES

By Barbara Peavey Ph.D. August 24, 2020
September means back-to-school for our children. With COVID many children are learning from home. Online teaching for children with learning and attention challenges will only be magnified! The PNP Center understands how children learn and attend. We can help your child with academic success. Not all inattention is ADD/ADHD. Because the PNP Center does a “brain-based” assessment we find nearly 75% of ADD/ADHD diagnoses are inaccurate! Inaccurate diagnosis leads to inadequate or wrong treatment. Many teachers and parents perceive difficulties sitting still and paying attention as ADHD or if a child is disruptive or argumentative with his/her learning efforts, parents take their child to the psychiatrist or pediatrician, who asks the parent and sometimes the child a few questions and based on their observation places the child on medication. Medication is nearly always not the answer. In fact, Dr. Lawlis’ best-selling book: The ADD Answer outlines approaches to help parents understand ADD/ADHD. There is a better way to know what is causing your child learning and behavioral difficulties which will lead to better treatment. PNP uses the latest brain functioning technologies and cognitive processing to apply evidence-based behavior approaches to deal with the current stress of the child in the school environment and developmental problems underlying his/her developmental problems. First, ADHD is a brain-based challenge. In order to accurately diagnose ADHD the brain activity needs to be measured. Understanding underlying brainwave activity is the basis of the PNP science-based multifaceted assessment looking at the many factors which can limit as child’s optimal cognitive and behavioral functioning. For 15 years Dr. Phil relied on the PNP Center naming PNP as a center capable of providing answers to the most complicated of circumstances.
